BREAKING THE MOULD
When you reach a certain point in your career, and you begin to spend several million on a property or apartment and then spend more money on redesigning the rooms, deciding what colour the walls are going to be, the style of sofa or bed, getting exactly what you want can be tricky no matter how much money you have.
Earlier this year I came across a brand that made me fall in love with a dining table called ‘The Olympia Table’. The brand was Davidson London, a company that specialises in creating bespoke furniture for those that want something more personal, a brand that understands precisely what you want and will guide you through the vast options so that you get that perfect piece that you will want to show off to our friends and family.
Established in 1986 by Richard and Deidre Davidson, a couple that had a passion for antiques, Davidson’s early designs were Regency in style. By the mid-nineties the look had evolved into Art Deco. Today the pieces boast an air of cool, contemporary elegance yet still with elements of classic inspiration offering a look that is truly timeless.
It is not just beautiful, high end residential homes that Davidson work alongside, the brand also design for luxury hotels and superyachts from around the world. What makes Davidson the ‘go to place’ for furniture is their attention to detail. All of the furniture is British made ensuring the highest quality craftsmanship, using modern and latest techniques at their smooth-running workshop to ensure that every piece is flawless. They have over thirty years of experience working with fine timbers, lustrous metallics and other innovative finishes such as vellum, shagreen and mother of pearl and are continuously developing new and exciting finishes to keep their look fresh as their style continues to evolve.
Today Davidson remains a family business with Richard Davidson as Chairman and Founder, heading up the production side of the business; eldest daughter Alexandra Davidson at the helm as Managing Director and younger daughter Claudia Davidson as Marketing Director. Earlier this year I was informed by the family that in fact Alexandra’s husband, Matthew Hepburn, had joined the company as the new Sales Director! A move that they all were very excited about, ensuring that the family business continues to make every client happy.
There are many promising and exciting developments on the horizon for Davidson. Just recently they announced a brand new collaboration with prestigious British interior design company, Taylor Howes, during the London Design Festival where they will be unveiling ‘The Howes Dining Table’. The table, which in homage to the philosophy of both firms is more akin to an art piece, will celebrate twenty-five years of friendship between the brands bringing together both Davidson and Taylor Howes and celebrating the very best in British craftsmanship.
Some of you will have already noticed that The Keep Club has begun the first steps in forming a partnership with Davidson London, which means that you will have direct access to the fantastic team who will fulfil those desires for your bespoke furniture. So keep a look out on the Club site for examples of their pieces.
